About me
Learn more about Warren Davies, The Unbreakable Farmer
I was born and bred in the eastern suburbs of Melbourne - the son of small business owners. Throughout primary school, I was confident and wasn’t afraid to take on leadership roles. However, my confidence eroded once I started secondary school, where I was subjected to bullying. As a result, my studies suffered immensely.
However, this is also when I started developing Resilience, and I would call upon this skill time and time again in future years.
In 1982, I made the life-changing decision to move to the country and to pursue my father’s dream of becoming a farmer. This gave me an opportunity to reinvent myself. A direction, a career path: I was going to be a farmer!
I was lucky enough to be mentored by one of the best farmers in the district, and was able to hone my skills. By age 22, I was able to purchase my first farm.
The next 16 years would be defining years for me.
“Resilience, Persistence, Determination - these are the three words that best describe me!”
The harsh reality of being a farmer soon became very evident: high interest rates, low commodity prices, floods and drought; all these had an impact, but most significantly, on my mental health.
These events tested my Resilience, Persistence and Determination, and had a massive impact on my young family, my relationships, and of course, my finances - culminating with the decision to basically walk off the farm.
Although with my skills, work was easy to find, such as managing large scale operations from Victoria to South Australia - it just wasn’t the same. I couldn’t settle and it felt like I had lost my identity because not only was the farm my career, but it was also my home, my life!
In my eyes, I had failed and carried the guilt of failing as a husband, and as a father.
Being an avid reader of books, I searched for a better way. I began my journey of piecing my life back together, and the road has been long. Through my Resilience, Persistence and Determination, I now tell my story and share my experiences to an audience of all ages. I reach people from the country to the city, the farmer or the CEO of a large corporation.
